This striking specimen is a well-developed scepter quartz crystal exhibiting a unique combination of amethyst and smoky quartz coloration. The crystal displays sharp, lustrous terminations and distinct color zoning, with the amethyst hues concentrated in the scepter head and subtle smoky tones near the base. This zoning reflects episodic changes in fluid chemistry and oxidation conditions during growth.
Scepter quartz forms when a second generation of quartz crystallizes over a previously formed crystal, typically under changing temperature or chemical conditions. The presence of iron (Fe³⁺) contributes to the purple coloration of amethyst, while natural radiation exposure causes the smoky coloration through the activation of aluminum-related color centers.
