Transparent Fluorite Crystal

Transparent Cubic Fluorite Crystals from Berbes Mining Area, Ribadesella, Asturias, Spain.

This specimen features a transparent, well-formed cubic fluorite crystal from the renowned Berbes mining area, located near Ribadesella, in Asturias, northern Spain. The fluorite exhibits exceptional clarity and sharp crystallographic edges, characteristic of the hydrothermal veins hosted within Carboniferous limestones of the region.

The fluorite mineralization in Berbes is associated with epigenetic vein-type deposits formed during post-Variscan tectonic reactivation events in the Late Paleozoic to Mesozoic. The mineralizing fluids exploited pre-existing faults and fractures within the carbonate platform, leading to the deposition of fluorite in open spaces.

This specimen originates from one of the classic workings in the Berbes area, such as the La Cabaña or Ana mines, both known for producing transparent to violet cubic fluorite crystals with excellent luster and minimal inclusions.
