Aquamarine crystal Atop Muscovite!

Large Doubly Terminated Aquamarine Crystal on Muscovite

A remarkable specimen featuring a large, doubly terminated Aquamarine crystal perched atop a shimmering matrix of silvery Muscovite. The Aquamarine displays classic blue-green coloration, excellent transparency, and well-defined hexagonal prismatic faces, terminating sharply at both ends — a rarity indicative of free growth in open cavities. The Muscovite matrix adds aesthetic contrast with its layered, micaceous luster and book-like crystal structure, commonly associated with high-temperature pegmatitic environments.

Geological Context:

This specimen likely formed within a granitic pegmatite, where slow cooling allowed for the development of large, well-formed crystals. The association of Aquamarine (a blue variety of Beryl) and Muscovite is typical of evolved pegmatitic zones enriched in volatiles and rare elements.

The Aquamarine crystal is a deep sky blue with super glassy surfaces and perfect terminations at both ends. It measures 6.7 cm in length with two smaller crystals attached to the backside which bring the total length to 7.5 cm. The matrix changes from large Muscovite blades on the backside to smaller blades of Muscovite on the front display side. The specimen could be displayed well from either side but this is the presentation that I prefer. I might also point out that the tips of the Aqua are gemmy and clear and transparent to the matrix.
